Quarantine is tough! It can be worse if you’re a girl trapped inside your home without your tribe of women who ahem! keep you looking like a girl.
Not being able to book in at the salon has meant taking matters into my own hands, in every sense of the word and I have never had more respect for the amazing women who have our back through hair, nails and everything in between.
So here’s a guide to some at-home beauty treatments for your skin and hair because if there was ever a time to be kind to yourself it is now.
MY BODYCARE
If there is one person, I’ve missed more than my mother in this Quarantine period it is my waxing lady. Bless her soul! She is my saviour and without access to her, I have had to experiment with different methods to get the job done. After a month of trial and error and copious amount of research, I zeroed in on an Epilator (here) to tide me through these difficult times. It’s a nifty tool, gets the job done and will last you for a very long time. It is also a good investment since I am not sure when it will be safe for me to return to my favourite salon.
The quarantine has also given me enough time in the mornings for a bit of indulgence, the time which was designated for my commute to work has now been replaced by an indulgent body care routine. A good scrub (here) followed by a lush moisturizer for summer (here) has greatly improved my skin texture.
MY HAIR
My hair had undoubtedly seen better days when lock down started. A recent city move, combined with the stress caused by the pandemic wreaked havoc with my hair. I had been on a hunt to find a solution to my hair fall woes and after a lot of research I found Olaplex (here) which has quite frankly been my saviour. It has greatly helped with my hair fall and overall hair quality. While I may never find the courage to trim my own hair or do a box color, a simple shampoo and conditioner routine (here) coupled with my targeted Olaplex treatment has helped to get my hair back on track.
MY NAILS
I hate doing my nails and so my monthly visit to my favourite salon is something I look forward to every month. Lockdown has however forced most of us to fend for ourselves and with a little extra time on my hands, I have finally started to experiment with my nails. I’ve found it quite de-stressing and something I enjoy while binge watching Netflix on weekends. While loads of manicure kits are available online, you probably wont need them, I invested in a simple kit (here) which does the job effectively.
MY SKIN
If there is one positive that has come out of all this at least in the sphere of beauty, it is the letting go of some of my daily routines which has vastly helped to heal my skin and give it a much-needed break. The pollution levels have dropped significantly and WFH has given me the flexibility to work sans any makeup. A simple skincare routine of cleansing (here) and moisturizing (here) both am and pm has helped to bring back some of the glow that gets lost in the daily grind of life.
